Nathan Van Kampen carries on a solicitor’s practice, with a focus on business law and commercial transactions. Nathan enjoys meeting with clients personally to have the opportunity to learn their specific needs and how best to craft a plan to suit their individual circumstances. This area of law provides an exciting opportunity to work with a business from conception and assist with growth and expansion while witnessing an entrepreneurs vision come to fruition. The ability to learn the ins and outs of an existing business in order to best address a client’s needs is similarly rewarding and Nathan enjoys being able to assist with transactions and ensure that client goals are met. In practice, this means working on share and asset purchases and sales, advising on commercial agreements, drafting and reviewing contracts, arranging financing and payouts and ensuring corporate records are accurately maintained.
Nathan can assist with all forms of real estate transactions, working with businesses, individuals and lenders on purchases, sales, leases, refinances and property ownership agreements. He can also assist clients with property development matters ranging from subdivision applications to addressing easements and property line issues. Meeting client needs also involves ensuring that estate planning documents are up-to-date and accurately reflect clients goals, intentions and values. Nathan works with clients to ensure that planning for unexpected life events, such as injury or incapacity, is in place to protect their family and their business by preparing Powers of Attorney and Representation Agreements. He also prepares Wills for individuals and assists corporate clients with estate planning documents to ensure that a company’s succession planning is adequately addresses in their legal documentation.
Kamloops (and the surrounding area) has been Nathan’s home for his entire life. Born and raised on a ranch in Monte Creek, he attended Thompson Rivers University and received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in history in 2012. He attended law school at the University of Victoria and graduated with his Juris Doctor in 2015. Nathan returned to Kamloops after graduation to complete his Articles in a local firm and began practising as an associate in May 2016 after being called to the bar. Nathan joined MJB Lawyers in March 2023.
Outside of the office, Nathan is involved with the Board of the Kamloops Adapted Sports Association and enjoys playing on the wheelchair basketball team. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys the outdoors, spending his free time with his wife skiing, hiking, or out in his backyard, while also following most major sports, particularly the Canucks and Raptors.
